At Macy Industries, we’ve worked with venue owners and architects to turn standard containers into something entirely new, combining structural know-how with custom fabrication to create spaces that are functional, safe, and built to last.
One of our recent projects was a custom snack bar and rooftop seating area at The Range, an outdoor music and event venue in Mason, New Hampshire.
The client came to us with a clear idea: they wanted a seasonal bar that could open up for guests during events and close up securely when not in use. It had to be durable, easy to operate, and meet local building codes—especially when it came to the rooftop deck, stairs, and railings.
We started with a site visit and walked through the plan together. The client provided the container, and we handled the rest—cutting out the openings, reinforcing the structure, adding steel for the rooftop platform, and installing PowerLift Hydraulic Doors that open and close at the push of a button.
Once we finished our fabrication work, we delivered the build to the site. The client added their final touches, and the container is now a fully functional, eye-catching centerpiece for one of the area’s most popular summer venues.
Why Shipping Containers?
We’ve seen interest in customized containers grow steadily over the past few years—and it’s easy to see why. Containers provide a durable and weather-resistant base that is well-suited for all kinds of applications.
Whether you’re looking for something mobile, compact, or just plain different, containers can be a smart solution.
Common use cases include:
- Snack bars and seasonal restaurants like the project at The Range—perfect for pop-up patios, golf course concessions, and event venues.
- Mobile workspaces and offices that offer a practical setup for remote job sites, traveling crews, or event teams.
- Temporary event setups built for concerts, festivals, tournaments, and pop-up venues.
- Secure storage and equipment housing designed to protect tools, supplies, or specialty equipment better than a standard shed.
Because containers are constructed from steel, they’re built to last. They hold up well in tough conditions, can be trailered between sites, and often require less infrastructure than a traditional building. They also happen to look great—especially when finished with custom platforms, paint, or rooftop seating.
And with Macy’s expertise in structural reinforcement, code compliance, and custom metal fabrication, they don’t just look good—they work the way you need them to.
How a Custom Container Project Comes Together
Every container build is a little different, but most follow a familiar rhythm. Here’s how we take a big idea and turn it into something fully functional:
Concept & Consultation
Some clients come to us with a sketch or site plan, and others just have a general vision. Either way, we’ll start by talking through your plans for the container. We’ll usually visit the site to help you think through layout, access, and logistics.
Design & Planning
From there, we’ll help finalize the size, features, and structural elements—things like cutouts, rooftop platforms, stairs, and railings. If it needs to meet code (and most do), we make sure those boxes are checked before we start cutting.
Structural Reinforcement
Whenever you remove part of the container’s frame for a window, door, or deck, you need to compensate for that loss of strength elsewhere. We add steel tubing or angle iron where needed to make sure everything remains structurally sound.
Fabrication
This step is where the idea comes to life. We handle all the metalwork in-house, including cutting, welding, platform integration, and features like PowerLift hydraulic doors or drop-down seating areas.
Delivery & Handoff
Once fabrication is complete, we deliver the container to your site. Some clients handle interior finishes or signage on their end, but the structure arrives ready to use.
Why Choose Macy Industries
When it comes to container projects, not every shop has the experience—or the equipment—to do it right. Between the structural modifications, custom features, and code compliance, it’s more than just cutting and welding.
As trusted industrial steel fabricators, we know how to properly reinforce containers, add rooftop seating safely, and integrate features like hydraulic doors that are built for real-world use. Whether you’re planning a snack bar, a mobile workspace, or something entirely different, we’re here to help you get it done right.
